Verónica Lloréns-Rico

Group Leader

After graduating in Biotechnology at the Universitat Politècnica de València in 2011, I obtained an MSc in Biophysics at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, followed by a PhD in Biomedicine at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and the Centre for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona. In my PhD, I characterized how the genome-reduced bacterium Mycoplasma pneumoniae regulates its gene expression to respond to different external cues. After my PhD, I pursued a postdoc at the VIB-KU Leuven Center for Microbiology, where I studied the functionality of the gut microbiota, developing experimental and computational techniques to study the activity of these bacteria.

My goal now is to understand how functions in the gut microbiota are regulated, that is, what are the external stimuli driving changes in the gene expression of these bacteria, and how these responses are controlled at the molecular level.

In my free time, I love to practice stand-up-paddle and surf, and enjoy long hikes outdoors.
