Tania Gaviria

Postdoctoral researcher

I completed my Biology studies in Colombia, my home country, and went on to earn a master’s degree in Molecular Biotechnology and a PhD in Environmental Microbiology at the University of Barcelona. It was there that my passion for understanding gene expression regulation in bacteria began. My research in Barcelona focused on the role of Gre transcription factors in the physiology and pathogenicity of Salmonella typhimurium.

Following this, I conducted my first postdoctoral research at the University of Namur in Belgium, investigating the influence of the ppGpp stress alarmone in Agrobacterium tumefaciens, a plant-associated bacteria.

Now, I am thrilled to be back in Spain, continuing my career at the Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe (CIPF) as part of the REGUBIOME project. Here, with the excellent facilities available, I am applying my expertise in bacterial gene regulation to analyze the transcriptomic profiles of two health-associated gut bacteria: Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus and Fusobacterium nucleatum.

Apart from my passion for science, I love traveling and enjoy staying active through CrossFit.
